JavaScript in PDF

Add JavaScript action to event triggers in browsing PDF

JavaScript was introduced to PDF a long time ago. Every time you open a document, click a button, browse a page, etc., an “action” can be triggered that is backed by a JavaScript snippet.

However, this feature was always underused because of the security concerns and the fact it is extremely hard to program. HTML pages has won over PDF when interactivity is essential. Adobe also has this tradition of stuffing everything it has into PDF, such as Flash, in the form of embedded object or packaging envelope. As the world is abandoning Flash in general, PDF should be kept as in its original form as much as possible. That is, a portable, document.
